Climate Conditions
☀ Three predominant types:
✔ Humid (3 dry months) – Western region.
✔ Semi – humid (4 a 5 dry months) – most of territory.
✔ Semi-arid (6 dry months) – southeastern region.
✔According the climatological normal from 1991 to 2020, Monthly precipitation averages between 1.092 a 2.175 mm; While, the temperatures range from maximums of 31,5ºC a 34,5ºC and minimums of 20,7ºC a 24,1ºC.
💧 Maranhão has most of hydrographic network composed of 4 federal basins, 13 state basins and 2 hydrographic systems.

✔ Itapecuru (16,03%) – Important for the supply.
✔ Pindaré (12,18%) – Important for the local economy.

Availability, demand and agricultural potential
Maranhão has significant water availability to attend the demands, as outlined in the State Water Resources Plan Summary Report. In all Project scenarios, total water availability remains suficiente to meet forecasted demands. Including human supply, livestock watering, irrigation, industry and aquaculture.
Water Use Legislation
The water use right grant is a management tool that regulates water usage in the state, ensuring controlled use and prioritization of demands per the State Water Resources Plan. In Maranhão, the granting process is regulated by State Law No. 8,149/2004 and State Decree No. 27,845/2011.
The license period of vigente water is about 05 years, can be prorroged for more 05 years.
